The Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), located at Patrick AFB, FL, was designed and built by the Hensel Phelps Design-Build Team to achieve the Owners vision for a world class headquarters facility that exemplifies design excellence while meeting incredibly high quality and security standards. The project scope included a four-story headquarters facility, office spaces, conference rooms, an auditorium, a 40,000 SF radiological laboratory, a five-story parking garage, and a Central Utility Plant.

The FDOT Manatee Operations Center is the first operations center to be designed in the past nine years.  This new state of the art operations center consists of multiple new buildings, each focused on a specific operational need, and will be the prototype for future operations centers throughout the state of Florida.  The 20 acre site consisted of 13 buildings, totaling 54,581 GSF of usable space distributed amongst all buildings, the largest being the Administration Building at 21,333 GSF.

H. J. High constructed the original 6,500 seat sanctuary in 1985 and was called upon to serve as the design-builder for the extensive renovation 30 years later. The sanctuarys former pew seating was replaced with new movie theater style including restructuring the tiered floor levels. The original house light fixtures were replaced with programmable LED fixtures controlled by the theatrical systems. All interior finishes were replaced with updated materials and a new color scheme. The narthex and gather spaces were reconfigured to facilitate the flow of traffic before and after worship. The renovation included a complete replacement of the existing above-ceiling catwalks and removal of the orchestra pit. The church was also equipped with a new audio/visual system and equipment. The 100,000 sf project was completed on an accelerated schedule in just six months.

US 17-92 Interchange at SR 436 Design-Build Project

Revamping the US 17-92 at SR 436 interchange, a congested corridor in Florida with 100,000 daily commuters, was no easy feat. The project posed great challenges including a single point urban interchange with a 457-foot flyover bridge using a 96 deep Florida I Beam (FIB). That design solution led to unprecedented delivery and installation of the longest single-piece concrete beams ever fabricated and installed in Florida and the US.  The project was designed/constructed with a $2 million savings to the FDOT and was delivered 30 days before schedule.

The I-275 Reconstruction Project was located through the heart of Tampa.  The success of this complex design/build project hinged on exceptional cooperation and communication between all team members; and stakeholders.  Few projects come together and gain the momentum that the I-275 team did; as evidenced by the early completion, absence of claims, and overall delivery of a high quality project built with the best interest of the public as its ultimate focus.

Haskell, Jacobs and Michels successfully completed 4,200 lf of 36-inch HDPE sewer force main inside a 42-inch steel casing installed by HDD under the St. Johns River. This project provided critical redundancy for a 40 year old force main. This line serves 55,000 JEA customers on the south side of the river. Upon completion in August 2016, either force main can convey the 10 MGD from the Utah PS under the river to the Buckman WWTP.

The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach Countys Renewable Energy Facility No. 2 (PBREF No. 2) is the cornerstone of its integrated waste management system. Part of a renewable energy campus including a LEED® Platinum-Certified Education Center, PBREF No. 2 was designed to augment the existing facility, bringing total processing capacity to 5,000 tons of post-recycled municipal solid waste daily, generating approximately 160 Megawatts of electricity, and reducing the volume of landfilled waste by 90%.

DBK was the selected Design-Builder to deliver a fully operational Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) to JAXPORT in compliance with all design criteria, completing the design, permitting, and construction on a fast-track schedule.  This facility provides enhanced intermodal connections, including direct access to CSX-owned rail lines and the U.S. Interstate System. The ICTF is a vital component in the intermodal transportation system provided by JAXPORT to realize its full potential as a Global Cargo Gateway.

The US 92 Pedestrian Improvement Project revitalized an important corridor that will accommodate economic growth, improve safety and emphasize durability and environmental sustainability through features that include: a pedestrian bridge, sidewalk widening, drainage and utility relocation and additional aesthetic character. The ability of the Team to meet the rigid schedule and budget, helps this project stand as a testament to the importance and effectiveness of great team work, through which great projects can be accomplished.

The Ajax/WGI Team brainstormed, developed and implemented improvements to this Design-Build project proposing more than 50 innovations to minimize impacts to the community and focus on safety, while reducing the construction schedule and maintenance requirements. The Team was very thorough in coordinating proposed design alternatives and implementing effective design solutions for the project corridor. In doing so, the Team completed the project 450 days ahead of schedule and $7,754,155.00 under budget.

Foundation Park: A Bioscience & Innovation Center is a public private partnership between Concept Companies and the University of Florida to create state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for bio-tech companies to research and develop their products and procedures. 
 
Located in the heart of Floridas Northeast Biotech Cluster, Phase 1 includes 42,460 square feet of divisible tenant space for customizable laboratory and office functions with common shared public spaces.  The 14 acre site is planned to add 200,000 square feet of laboratories.

Central Boulevard is the gateway to Miami-Dade County and Miami International Airport and represents the first and last impression of our community for visitors from around the world. The Central Boulevard Widening, Realignment and Service Loop Project provided improvements to the inbound and outbound traffic using Miami International Airport. Through design and construction innovations, the Community Asphalt / BCC Engineering Team saved MDX and MIA $44 million from the original construction estimate.

SR 9B is a four-lane limited access highway connecting Duval and St. Johns Counties. The project goal was to add capacity, safety and mobility to an area of northeast Florida that has experienced rapid growth. Accessing I-95 was inconvenient and required traveling heavily congested local roads. The scope includes design and construction of approximately 2.5 miles of roadway and eight bridges, of which four span I-95. It opened to traffic in July.
