FDOT Announces Industry Forum

ANNOUNCEMENT of INDUSTRY FORUM

Proposed Adjusted Score Design Build Contract
Wave Streetcar
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hosting an Industry Forum on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Riverview Ballroom located at 201 SW 5th Avenue | Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312.  Registration/Check-In begins at 8:00 AM and the formal presentation begins at 9:00 AM. The project to be presented is the Wave Streetcar, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The Wave Streetcar project consists of the design and construction of the first phase of the Wave Streetcar System. Phase One is a 2.8 mile segment designed to move people in and around downtown Fort Lauderdale, spanning the New River to connect the hospital and courthouse districts on the south side with the downtown business core and government, education, shopping, recreation and entertainment centers on the north side.  It will serve as a circulator/distributor system, with connections to regional bus and rail systems. The project includes the purchase of the five (5) streetcars.

The alignment has a total of 13 stations along the route. Five of the stations will be located in the center of the roadway, serving southbound streetcars on one side and northbound streetcars on the other. The remaining stations will be built along an existing sidewalk. The Vehicle Maintenance and Storage Facility (VMSF), also in this contract, will be built on two acres of land at SW 18 Street and SW 1 Avenue. The VMSF includes light and heavy maintenance bays, the Operation Control Center, office/administrative space, train wash equipment, and various shops. Designed to initially accommodate five vehicles, the VMSF will have the potential to house a total of 15 vehicles, as the system expands its routes.

Other project requirements include, but are not limited to: surveys, roadway, earthwork, drainage, moveable bridge rehabilitation/modification, miscellaneous structures, guardrail, retaining walls, traffic control, utility relocation, signing and pavement markings, embedded track work, traction electrification, overhead contact system (OCS), train control/signalization, communications, SCADA, street lighting, fare collection, public involvement, and environmental permitting.

The purpose of the Industry Forum is to inform potential Design-Build teams, including contractors, subcontractors, design consultants, and streetcar vehicle manufacturers, of the important elements and considerations of this proposed contract, including whether to include the streetcars as part of the Design- Build contract or to procure the streetcars under a separate contract.

Attendance is not mandatory but is recommended to learn more about the project. This Industry Forum will include a presentation on the project scope, anticipated procurement timeline, and procurement process for the project. After the presentation, time will be allotted for questions from industry partners. Advanced registration is required and may only be accomplished by completing the registration form posted on the project website at www.wavestreetcar.com  and also available from the link below:
